As a few years travel by, I tend to collect a lot of old gear and positions that I no longer need. Let it be outdated PC parts, instrument accessories, recording gear, clothing, camera gear and so forth. I usually end up giving it away to friends, family and finally Goodwill for whatever is left.

I decided to tally up everything (Goodwill-wise) so far that I have let go this year to see what my writeoffs look like thus far. I have given away 42 items to goodwill already. I never knew I had so much stuff I didn’t need. Given, I think I have gone though just about everything looking for such items…so I’m pretty much at a dead end now. An old wired phone, a not so old digital 5ghz wired phone set (I don’t have a hard-phone line)….an old digital camera, a printer…some old clothes that were never worn (yatta yatta). It all adds up quickly collecting space.

I handed off a good number of things to friends as well. I just mailed out a small pocket-size digital kodak camera to a friend. I noticed I haven’t used it in over 2 years. It was a nice camera, but my phone takes just as good images (if not better) so why not pass it on to someone who could use it. Two old 21″ TV’s, some Xbox games that I some how acquired but would never play. *poof*….gone. Freed up a lot of space.

Something interesting, I recently acquired a signed original art piece by one of the artists from “Adventure Time” (via a local comic/art convention) for someone. I paid $15 for it, it was very well sketched out and had no idea what I was going to do with it, as sadly I could no longer give it to them. I don’t watch the show myself. I tried giving it away but I didn’t know anyone who followed the show (no one wanted to claim it). I wound up bringing it up to someone who bought it off of me for $50. As to why they wanted it so badly (especially since the signature was personalized), couldn’t say. o_O….I may need to acquire some more of those art pieces the next time I run into that artist. It was an image of the dog from the show, dressed as batman in a nice action scene. Unique….

If everyone took the time to randomly go through one room a day and collect everything that had no need for….old PC gear, tech you haven’t used for years and have no need for now, clothing that no longer fits or never worn…an old bowling bowl……..imagine treasure smorgasbord that would be donated to Goodwill or anyone else who wanted it. Imagine the space you will suddenly find in your homes. Take those old drives you use as doorstops and offer them to friends. You never know…they may need that 80GB hard drive for an odd project. Old cellphones…your neighbor may be looking to give their kid a phone they don’t worry so much about getting trashed.

I have a family member I have been slowly helping out. They are quite the pack rat, so Goodwill has been gaining a lot of weight thanks to them. About 4 car loads so far. I’d say that’s quite the dent in decades of…..pack ratting. They have found areas in their house they forgot were even there.

…..just a random blabber post/point since I had no idea what to write about. I had a review drafted from a few weeks ago about some gaming apparel/stuff but I decided against publishing it. Just didn’t have the energy to finish it. More things to come though…eventually. As soon as I find my muse.

Until then….enjoy picking apart this…horribly….formatted….blog post…….after watching one of Weird Al’s new videos (quite possibly one of his best):

….and….this is where I realize I should have gone to bed as I need to get up in four and a half hours.

    Fantastic parody from the king, #WeirdAl ! I hate those #WordCrimes ! I
    love #Trogdor at 1:38 though…

  9. griffinlobster

I’m left to wonder whether the split infinitive at the end is an
intentional subtle joke or a perfectly-timed mistake 😛

  10. Bronies

Not pony related, but everyone should watch. You might learn something. I
    hope you do.
Edit: Wow. I thought we got over hating things that don’t affect us. I
guess not. Does this mean I have to go back to hating pink shower curtains?

This is way better than the original, in my humble opinion.

    *Oh The Irony*
I would like to give a virtual standing ovation to Weird Al for his latest
video “Word Crimes”. Now, if only I could write the word ‘weird’ without
having to first visualise it as “i before e” every bloody time!

  15. Egysp00fs

I’m afraid of writing a comment… I’m so worried about the grammar nazis
more than anything else. It doesn’t matter tho, the song is fantastic.

  16. Lisa Harvey

Hi Writers, you’ve probably seen this and it is really cool. Almost.

at about 3:10 he uses the word Spastic. Where I come from this is a cruel
and derogatory word. A good friend of mine has a son with Cerebral Palsy
and this word (and the R word) are hurtful.

There is some debate about whether it is not seen or felt as a derogatory
term in the US and therefore it is (more) acceptable.

In this international world how do we deal with language variances?Spelling
is one thing, and idioms are often in context, but colloquialisms that are
hurtful or derogatory somewhere and not elsewhere have a different thing
    again.

I’d love to hear what you think?

  17. Veronica Belmont

My personal favorite of the new #WeirdAl videos!

  18. Raina Becker

This is so true and it’s hilarious!

  19. john ainslie

All well and good but I wish ‘muricans would stop using ‘Z’ when it should
be an ‘S’ . It’s ‘Familiarise’ and not ‘Familiarize’ – look in the
frigg’in Oxford Dictionary !! While I’m having a gripe I might as well also
say – ‘ USA STOP SUPPORTING ISRAEL’s wanton massacre of civilians !

  20. Basil Doeringsfeld

*As a proud grammar nazi, I reluctantly approve of this Weird Al video.*
However, I really wish he had covered “there,” “their,” and “they’re,” as
well as when to use “so and so and I,” vs “so and so and me”!

  21. Lynette TheMadScientist

This is a funny song but…seriously guys, can’t you just ignore it when
people make mistakes? Just because they don’t take the time to proofread
and edit each comment doesn’t make them a moron. Internet comments or texts
do not need to be as formal as an English paper. Also, having a basic
knowledge of English grammar doesn’t make you smart either.

  22. Julia Rose Piatt

For +Rob Legend, as an apology for theft of plus # 69.

  23. Stephen Brown

Such a great track, learn your grammar people 🙂

  24. Bjorn Behrendt

For all you English teachers out there (and me).

  25. xSTATOKEx

“Could care less” is the most infuriating, I find its an American creation
    used by nearly all Americans.

  26. deathtokoalas

i refuse to follow the rules that exist in conventional english grammar
regarding its/it’s, as it demonstrates rather clearly how grammar is in
fact a form of mind control. it clearly follows that weird al is an nwo
    pawn, btw.

but, let us analyze this carefully. we have three things to take into
    account.

    1) contractions. it’s can clearly be used as a contraction for “it is”. no
    argument.
    2) plural. generally, when used without an apostrophe, an s at the end of a
word means that the idea expressed is one of plurality.
    3) possessive. generally, we use apostrophes to indicate possessives.

it follows that, to be consistent across the language, its *should* mean
plural and it’s *should* be used for both the contraction and the
possessive. yet, for absolutely no discernible reason other than the
arbitrary dictate of some centralized grammar authority somewhere, this
convention is shattered for it’s/its. i don’t know the history, but it
almost certainly reduces to somebody’s arbitrary *opinion* on the matter.

i reject all of this as inconsistent with the principles of natural
justice, which demand that laws be on a firm, rational basis rather than at
the arbitrary dictate of some authoritarian body. with enough push back, we
can take back our language as a democratic, dynamic entity and have this
    changed to something more rational.

so, please join in me in ignoring the irrationality of this particular rule
of modern english – and any others you may find.

  27. Vishnu Prabhuram

One of the best parody I have ever seen 🙂 Blurred lines

well hey now we can listen to this tune without having to hear about rape
    culture. Ain’t that dandy

(edit; in case it wasn’t clear. I hate the lyrics of the original, not
    this.)
(edit again; sorry to disable replies. Peoples’ stupidity were clogging up

I’m too scared to comment. Because I think someone going to correct my
    comment.

  35. TheGrandRevo

My god, who the hell cares! Who seriously cares about grammar this much?

  36. Mike0748

A little song for all the grammar nazis out there.

  37. Angel Deville

The errors that most get under my skin are “loser” (not the winner) being
misspelled as “looser” (less tight) and “lose” (opposite of win} spelled as
“loose” (not tight); as well as “you’re” (contraction for “you are”) being
    misspelled as “your” (possessive pronoun).

  38. lazyfireball7889

Why was “Spastic” a “hurtful” word? I see nothing wrong with it.

  39. emma thrash

when will people understand that the use of literally in figurative
situations is used for exaggeration? i don’t think anyone who uses it
expects it to be synonymous with figuratively. i think literally, not
actually but really, really close to so like almost literally everyone
    knows the definition of literally.

More proof Weird Al is a puppet for the *ILLUMINATI* he released 8 videos
in 7 days the number 3 and 4 coupled together is a mystical number
representing his ties to the Freemasons. This is why the letter “G” is the
7th letter of the alphabet and is displayed in the temple square of the
*ILLUMINATI* – Weird Al is 54 years old, there’s 5 points on a pentagram
with 4 points reflecting downwards, that is his tribute to Lucifer and his
followers. None of his videos are funny which is another tribute to the all
seeing owl. The all seeing owl has an inverted hairline which shockingly
resembles Weird Al’s unusual resemblance of a woman. Uses of the number 6
pop up numerous times in this video, it is a signal of Weird Al
transitioning from a born man to becoming a whore of the Devil. He wants
to look like a woman to confuse the masses. Wake up world.

  41. CraftCakes

actually, it was added this year by oxford that the word “Literally” can be
used for emphasis. so “I literally couldn’t get out of bed” does work.

  42. Y-G-J

    Trolling is a art.

  43. Ashish Rawat

How many Gramar Nazis are here ?

  44. Nyhmnim

Actually, according the Oxford Dictionary, “literally” can now be used as
    to emphasize something.

  45. Jonathan Cameron

Although, by putting “Weird Al” in inverted commas, he implies that his
name is just Jankovic, because the proper noun “Al” becomes part of the
bracketed adjectival phrase. If he wants to be grammatically correct, he
should probably call himself either “Weird” Al Jankovic or Alfred “Weird
    Al” Jankovic.

  46. blaze mehta

kl song but writing like “kl,bzy” its the new way of saying stuff

  47. Alex H Yong
